Galveston, Texas, Nov. 20, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – The holidays have started at Moody Gardens with the 20th annual Festival of Lights and glorious weather for thousands of guests to enjoy the opening ceremony and a variety of of vacation attractions. Santa opened the 2021 holiday season with a tradition of returning to Moody Gardens by flipping the giant electric switch to light up the mile-long Festival of Lights trail decked out in two million lights and filled with displays bright and lively enhanced on everyone’s favorite holiday music theme. The Festival of Lights will continue to shine throughout the holiday season every day until January 2.

Opening day kicked off with a spectacularly festive ballet, tap dance and jazz performance by Webster Texas-based Jill Rauscher’s School of Dance, which featured everyone’s favorite Christmas grumpy – the Grinch, as well as Santa’s reindeer and some tiny ragdolls straight from Santa’s Workshop. Following their performance, a festive crowd saw Santa and his elves parachute from a plane to officially flip the switch and open the largest holiday light display on the Gulf Coast. The celebration also featured Houston favorite Velvet Punch, which performed holiday classics with a twist and more.

Popular exhibits along the Festival of Lights include The Nutcracker, a toy factory, 12 Days of Christmas, a storytelling nativity scene, and Star: The Dancing Tree of Light – a four-story digital Christmas tree. The Festival of Lights trail has improved dramatically over the years. When the trail opened 20 years ago it was a quarter mile long with holiday music with the music technology of the day being CD players. Today the trail is a mile long trail with a state of the art audio system, animated lights, digital trees and more that has become a tradition for many families and has now started a second generation with parents who visited as children. Guests looking to stay overnight or for an extended stay are encouraged to visit the family-run Moody Gardens hotel, which offers spectacular views of the destination’s iconic pyramids dressed in Christmas lights.

In addition to the Festival of Lights, some of the other holiday attractions include Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer performing in the 4D theater, other holiday 3D movies, the arctic slide and train rides, s’mores around the corner. bonfire, evening cruises aboard the Colonel Paddlewheel Bateau and many dining and hotel options including breakfast with Santa.

“Festival of Lights has become a wonderful tradition for families over the years,” said John Zendt, President and CEO of Moody Gardens. “It’s always a pleasure to see the children’s faces light up when Santa Claus arrives. It’s amazing how all of this has evolved over the years.
